Part A — General Provisions for All Drivers
1. About This Addendum
In short. This Addendum sets the rules for Drivers and is part of the Terms of Use. You accept it when you apply to register as a Driver. If it conflicts with the General Terms, this Addendum wins for Driver matters.
1.1. What this Addendum is. This Addendum establishes the rules for Drivers and is an integral part of the Terms (the inDrive General Terms of Use). By submitting an application to register as a Driver, you accept this Addendum.
1.2. Precedence. If this Addendum and the Terms conflict and the conflict cannot be reconciled, this Addendum prevails for matters concerning Drivers.
1.3. Changes. We may amend this Addendum following the same rules that apply to changes to the Terms (Section 1 of the Terms). Continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect means you accept the amended Addendum.
2. Your Independent Status
In short. You work for yourself, not for inDrive. You choose when and whether to fulfil Orders, you are free to pursue other opportunities, and you handle your own taxes. We don’t guarantee any number of orders or earnings.
2.1. Independent drivers. You act as an independent provider of transport, logistics or courier services. You are not an employee, representative or agent of inDrive. Neither inDrive nor Drivers may bind the other party to any obligations or represent its interests beyond what the Terms and this Addendum expressly provide.
2.2. No employment benefits. Because you are not an employee of inDrive, you are not entitled to employment benefits such as paid leave, sick leave, insurance, pension contributions or unemployment compensation, unless the law provides otherwise.
2.3. Taxes. You are solely responsible for calculating, reporting and paying any taxes and contributions arising from your activity on the Platform, and for making any required filings, unless the law requires us to withhold or pay them on your behalf. Where the law requires, you must also cooperate with tax-related requests and procedures of the competent authorities, whether they are handled through the Platform or directly by you.
2.4. Your schedule. You set your own schedule. You decide when to send Bids and whether to conclude transactions. We do not guarantee a minimum number of Orders or any particular earnings.
2.5. No exclusivity. You are free to choose whether and when to use the Platform and to pursue any other opportunities you consider suitable, including providing similar services outside the Platform, subject to applicable law. Using the Platform creates no exclusive obligations for you or for inDrive.
2.6. Your eligibility. You confirm that you are legally entitled to provide services through the Platform and to receive income for them, whether on your own account or on behalf of a person you work for, and that no legal restriction (for example, one connected with public office) prevents you from doing so. Where the law of your country requires a specific legal or tax status for this, you confirm that you hold or accept it (Section 2.3). Tell us without delay if any of this changes.
3. Your Expenses
3.1. Unless the law provides otherwise, you bear all costs of performing services through the Platform, including:
- fuel;
- maintenance and repair of the Vehicle;
- vehicle insurance, liability insurance or both, as required;
- tolls, paid roads and parking;
- obtaining and renewing the permits, licences and registrations required by applicable law, including transport and ride-hailing regulations.
3.2. Equipment and connectivity. You must have a working smartphone and an active data plan sufficient for stable access to the Platform. You bear all mobile-communication and equipment costs.
4. Registering as a Driver
In short. To fulfil Orders you must register as a Driver, pass verification and activate each Vertical you want to work in. We may decline an application. Vertical-specific document requirements are in Part B.
4.1. Registration and verification. To use the Platform as a Driver, register and pass verification. Verification may be carried out by inDrive, by our partners or, where the law requires it, through the systems of a competent authority. You may fulfil Orders only in the Verticals activated on your Driver Profile. To activate a Vertical you must meet its requirements (see Part B); documents and checks you have already completed for one Vertical are reused where they satisfy the requirements of another, and we will ask you only for any additional documents.
4.2. Documents. The list of required documents and checks is shown in the Platform interface and may depend on the Vertical (see Part B), your country and city, the type and class of your Vehicle and other parameters. We may change the list where the law, safety or fraud prevention requires it.
4.3. Refusal. If you do not meet our registration requirements, or a check required by law (including one performed through a competent authority’s system) is not passed, we will refuse to register you as a Driver.
4.4. What registration unlocks. After successful registration you can:
- see Customers’ Orders and send Bids;
- conclude contracts with Customers and fulfil Orders;
- participate in the Driver Loyalty Program and other Incentive Activities for Drivers;
- use the Driver Wallet to pay the inDrive Fee and receive bonuses;
- access content and materials intended for Drivers;
- take other actions connected with a Driver’s activity.
4.5. Keeping documents current. You must keep your registration information and documents accurate and current. If a document expires or is withdrawn (for example, your driver’s licence), you must stop providing the affected services and update your documents before continuing.
5. Your Obligations as a Driver
In short. Follow the rules, keep your documents valid, provide the services personally and safely, meet the published Minimum Service Conditions, and comply with the law — including tax, anti-money-laundering and anti-corruption rules.
5.1. As a Driver, you must:
- comply with the Terms, this Addendum and the other inDrive Rules;
- provide us with current information and documents in a timely manner;
- hold a valid driver’s licence and every other permit, licence or registration required for the services you provide, including under transport and ride-hailing regulations;
- make sure you have no medical contraindications to providing the services;
- provide the services personally — the person performing the service must be the verified Driver. You must not pass information about Orders or Customers to third parties, or delegate the actual performance of services to them;
- record the status of each Order truthfully — do not mark an Order as started, completed, delivered or cancelled contrary to what actually occurred, and do not falsify any handover confirmation, photo, code or other evidence of performance;
- provide services only with the Vehicle you reported to inDrive;
- keep the Vehicle in good working order and compliant with statutory and industry standards and safety requirements;
- ensure the safety of the trip at all times. We may contact you during a trip for safety monitoring (including automatically); respond to such notifications when it is safe and does not distract you from driving;
- meet the Minimum Service Conditions we publish (see Section 7), including maintaining a minimum acceptable rating and keeping your cancellations and late arrivals within acceptable levels;
- calculate and pay in good faith all applicable taxes arising from your use of the Platform as a Driver;
- comply with all applicable laws on anti-money laundering, sanctions, anti-corruption and anti-bribery, countering illegal trade and the financing of terrorism, and prohibiting child or forced labour — and not commit, facilitate, encourage or induce anyone to commit acts violating such laws.
6. inDrive Fee and Driver Wallet
In short. You pay a fee for the inDrive Offerings. Depending on the Vertical and the country, the fee is charged per completed order or under an Access Plan. For a per-order fee, the fee is reserved when the deal is concluded and charged when the order is completed; if the order falls through and it wasn’t your fault, the reserved fee is released back. Keep your wallet topped up; chargebacks can make your balance negative and you’ll need to restore it.
6.1. inDrive Fee. Drivers pay inDrive a fee for the inDrive Offerings. Depending on the Vertical and the country, the fee is charged for each completed Order (the one-off fee) or under an Access Plan, as shown in the Platform interface.
One-off Fee
6.2. How the one-off fee is calculated. Where the one-off fee applies, we calculate the inDrive Fee for each transaction with a Customer that you conclude on the Platform. The fee is a percentage of the Order price and is paid through the Driver Wallet. The current fee rate is shown in the Platform interface. Where the law requires us to collect a governmental or regulatory fee in connection with your Orders, it is shown separately in the Platform interface and charged in addition to the inDrive Fee.
6.3. When the fee is reserved and charged. The inDrive Fee for an Order is reserved on your Driver Wallet when the transaction is concluded — that is, when the Customer accepts your Bid or the price is otherwise agreed between you through the Platform — and is charged when the Order is completed.
6.4. Release of the reserved fee. If the Order is not completed — including where the Customer cancels the Order or does not appear — the reserved inDrive Fee (not the Order price) is released back to your Driver Wallet, except in the cases the Terms establish. If the Order did not take place, or was not completed, at your initiative or through your fault, the fee is not refunded. A release or refund to the Driver Wallet may take up to 30 days after the Order is cancelled and reviewed by inDrive; a shorter period may apply in specific Verticals, as shown in the Platform interface.
6.5. Rounding. The charged amount is stated using arithmetic rounding to the nearest kobo (NGN): amounts below half a kobo are rounded down and amounts of half a kobo and above are rounded up.
6.6. Sufficient balance. To send Bids and perform Orders, make sure your Driver Wallet holds enough funds to pay the fee.
Driver Wallet
6.7. Refund of unused funds. If you decide to delete your Profile and unused funds remain in your Driver Wallet, contact inDrive support for a refund. In other cases we may, at our discretion, refund unused funds on a reasoned request, provided there are no signs of misuse of the Driver Wallet or the Platform. Refunds are made to the payment instrument or account from which the funds were paid, unless the law requires otherwise or that instrument is no longer available. We aim to process a refund within 10 business days from the date we receive your request with all the information needed to process it; the time it takes for the funds to reach you depends on your bank or payment provider, and we may delay a refund until the chargeback period for the relevant top-up has expired or until any check we need to make is complete. Before making a refund we may set off any amount you owe us. We do not refund in cash.
6.8. Chargebacks and negative balance. The “Chargebacks and Reversed Payments” provisions of the Terms (Section 5) apply to your Driver Wallet. If a top-up or payment connected with your Driver Wallet is reversed through a Chargeback, we may reduce, reverse or debit the corresponding amount from your balance; if the balance is insufficient, it may become negative, and you must restore it before continuing to use the Platform. A negative balance is an amount you owe us because a payment was reversed — it is not a fee for access to the Platform or a charge for the right to work. You may contest any adjustment through inDrive support.
Access Plan
6.9. What Access Plan is. We may offer an Access Plan (“Access Plan”) that lets you send Bids and fulfil Orders during the access period without paying a one-off fee for each completed Order. In some Verticals and countries the Access Plan is the only available fee model.
6.10. Transparency. Before you buy an Access Plan, the Platform interface shows its price, duration and the conditions and limits that apply — for example, the Verticals and cities it covers and any cap on the number of Orders. The fee is paid in a single payment when you select it and does not renew automatically.
6.11. No refund for unused time. No refund is provided for unused Access Plan time, except where the law requires otherwise.
6.12. Availability and changes. The availability of Access Plans and their terms depend on the Vertical and the city. We may change the durations and prices of the Access Plans offered; changes do not affect an Access Plan you have already paid for.
7. Minimum Service Conditions
In short. Keeping a decent rating, a reasonable cancellation level and on-time arrivals is a condition of using the Platform. Thresholds are set per Vertical and country and published on the Platform. We assess your overall performance across many orders — not a single ride. If you fall below the conditions, we will warn you and give you a chance to improve before restricting access (except in safety or fraud cases), and you can always appeal.
7.1. The conditions. Maintaining the service quality described in the Minimum Service Conditions and other applicable inDrive Rules is a condition of your continued access to the Platform. The conditions may include maintaining a minimum acceptable rating and keeping your Order cancellations and late arrivals within acceptable levels. The applicable thresholds may differ by Vertical and by country and are published on the Platform for each Vertical.
7.2. Aggregate assessment. We assess whether you meet the conditions on the basis of your overall performance across a number of Orders — for example, your overall rating calculated from your most recent ratings, your cancellation rate, or how often you arrive late after accepting an Order — and not by reference to any single Order or ride.
7.3. Opportunity to improve. If you fall below the conditions, we will notify you and give you a reasonable opportunity to improve, except where the shortfall involves safety or fraud.
7.4. Restrictions. If your performance does not improve, or falls below the conditions again, we may temporarily restrict or suspend your access to some or all features of the Platform for a period that reflects the seriousness and repetition of the shortfall. When we apply such a measure, we will tell you the reason and what you can do to restore your standing.
7.5. Review. If you believe a rating or a measure is mistaken — for example, because a rating was fraudulent, retaliatory, discriminatory or otherwise inaccurate — ask us to review it through inDrive support. Section 8 of the Terms (reasons and appeal) applies.
8. Profile Restrictions and Blocking
In short. We can restrict or block your Driver profile for breaking the rules, using false documents, repeatedly abandoning orders, failing the Minimum Service Conditions, or obstructing an investigation. You will be told why, and you can appeal.
8.1. Grounds. We may temporarily or permanently restrict or block your Profile if:
- you violated the Terms, this Addendum or other inDrive Rules;
- reasonable complaints about your actions were received from Customers or other Users;
- we discovered that you use inaccurate, falsified or expired documents;
- you repeatedly refused to fulfil Orders you had accepted without good reason, assessed against the Minimum Service Conditions for your Vertical (Section 7);
- acting reasonably and objectively, we determine that you have repeatedly or seriously failed to meet the Minimum Service Conditions that apply to you (Section 7);
- you obstruct the investigation of incidents, refuse to provide information or refuse to cooperate with inDrive in handling complaints.
8.2. Process. The enforcement rules of the Terms (Section 8) — including compliance checks, statement of reasons, re-registration limits and the appeal route — apply to measures under this Addendum.
9. Using inDrive Branding
In short. You may use our branding only to identify yourself as an inDrive Driver, and only in the format we approve. Never use it off-platform or with competitors, and stop using it when we ask or when your use of the Platform ends.
9.1. Permitted use. You may use inDrive Branding to identify yourself as a Driver offering services through the Platform. Using inDrive Branding does not make you a representative, partner or joint venture of inDrive and does not transfer to you any rights in the branding or other intellectual property of inDrive.
9.2. Approved use. You may use the branding only in the ways inDrive approves. We determine which branding elements are available, in what format and where they may be placed.
9.3. Prohibited use. Do not use inDrive Branding in connection with services you provide outside the Platform — through other platforms, by direct arrangement or otherwise — alongside the branding of a competing platform, or in any way that misleads about your relationship with inDrive. Doing so infringes the intellectual-property rights of inDrive or its licensors and may have legal consequences.
9.4. Ceasing use. At inDrive’s request, and in any case when your use of the Platform ends for any reason, you must immediately stop using inDrive Branding.
Part B — Vertical-Specific Provisions for Drivers
Part B contains registration and performance rules that apply only in specific Verticals. Where Part B is silent, Part A of this Addendum and the Terms apply.
B1. City and Intercity Drivers (Passenger Transportation)
In short. To carry passengers you must prove your identity, your right to drive and carry passengers, and your right to use the vehicle. During trips: registered vehicle only, no one in the vehicle except the Customers and passengers travelling under Orders on that trip, follow the agreed route and the law.
B1.1. Registration requirements. When registering as a Driver in the City or Intercity Verticals, you must provide documents confirming:
- your identity and the correspondence of your identification data;
- your legal right to drive and to carry passengers;
- your legal right to use the Vehicle you indicated at registration;
- other factual circumstances and technical means (including specialised software) needed to ensure safety.
B1.2. Performing trips. When performing a trip, you must:
- use only the Vehicle registered in your Driver Profile;
- not allow anyone other than the Customer and the passengers travelling under Orders on the same trip (including shared Intercity trips) to accompany you during an Order; the number of passengers must not exceed the terms of your published Bid and the legal capacity of the Vehicle;
- follow the route and terms agreed with the Customer, unless the Customer agrees to a change or safety requires one;
- comply with traffic rules and passenger-carriage requirements, including any limits on the number of passengers;
- not demand any payment beyond the price agreed through the Platform.
B1.3. Intercity specifics. In the Intercity ride-sharing mode, the Bid you publish must accurately describe the planned trip (route, time, available seats, price and baggage conditions). You are responsible for the accuracy of your published Bids.
B2. Courier and Freight Drivers (Parcels and Freight)
In short. Requirements depend on how you deliver — on foot, by bike or motorcycle, by car or by truck. You must confirm your identity and vehicle details. Handle parcels with care, hand them over against confirmation, and refuse parcels that look prohibited or that a minor cannot lawfully receive.
B2.1. Registration requirements. Depending on how you provide courier or freight services (car courier, on-foot courier, motorcycle courier, freight-vehicle driver), when registering you must:
- confirm your identity and the correspondence of your identification data;
- provide the Vehicle details (type, make, licence plate, permitted load capacity, where applicable);
- provide supporting documents — driver’s licence, vehicle registration certificate, insurance policy and other documents required by law or the inDrive Rules.
B2.2. Handling parcels. When performing parcel and freight Orders, you must comply with the parcel rules in Section B2 of the Terms, including:
- your right to ask the Customer to show the contents and to seal the packaging in your presence, and to refuse a suspicious parcel;
- your duty to deliver the parcel safely and on time, avoid loss or damage, hand the parcel over against confirmation, and make reasonable return attempts if delivery fails;
- your duty to refuse delivery of age-restricted or otherwise regulated goods where the recipient is clearly a minor or has no legal right to receive them, and to notify the Customer.
B2.3. Liability. Your liability for loss of or damage to a parcel is governed by Section B2.9 of the Terms and the law.
End of the Driver Addendum. The Terms and Definitions in Annex A of the General Terms of Use apply to this document.
